“Backstage” 后台
These images were taken while I was volunteering at Hackney Chinese Community Services in London. I was utterly captivated by everything happening there. It’s not only a backstage space for preparing meals for the Chinese diaspora, but also an immersive stage where identity, belonging, and creativity unfold. Every time I stepped into the kitchen, it felt like walking onto the set of Ang Lee’s Eat Drink Man Woman—a place that stirred vivid memories of my hometown, echoing scenes of daily life in a small coastal city in southeast China during the 1990s.
